The 143rd St East Extension involves constructing a new road between IL 59 and IL 126 with improvements at both intersections, a bridge over the DuPage River, a new signalized intersection at Plainfield-Naperville Road, and multiple culverts and retaining walls.

Project Highlights

• The new 143rd Street roadway will consist of Portland cement concrete pavement with curb and gutter.
• 143rd Street will consist of two lanes in each direction with a raised median between IL Route 59 and IL Route 126.
• A 960’ 7-Span bridge over the DuPage River and associated river floodway.
• Traffic signal improvements at the intersection of 143rd Street at IL Route 59 to accommodate the East extension.
• New traffic signalized intersections with dedicated turn lanes at 143rd Street and Naperville Road and 143rd Street and IL Route 126.
• Traffic signal interconnection along 143rd Street between IL Route 59 and IL Route 126.
• Reconstruction and widening improvements to Naperville Road and IL Route 126 to accommodate the intersection improvements at 143rd Street.
• LED street lighting along the improved sections on 143rd Street, IL Route 59, Naperville Road, and IL Route 126.
• Shared use path from the DuPage River Trail to IL Route 126 along with bicycle and pedestrian crosswalks at intersections.
• 2,500’ retaining wall along the north side of 143rd Street between Naperville Road and IL Route 126.
• IL Route 126 underpass extension to accommodate roadway widening.
• West Norman Drain box culvert extension on 143rd Street/US Route 30.
• A new closed storm sewer system.
• New water main along the north side of 143rd Street west of the DuPage River.
• Pavement marking and landscaping improvements throughout.

The total project cost for the East Extension is $82,500,000.
