This week, the contractor continued embankment work west of the west abutment and excavation at the DuPage River compensatory storage area. They poured the top slab of the West Norman Drain north culvert, installed temporary concrete barrier, pavement striping, and implemented temporary traffic signals on the east leg of 143rd Street (east of Illinois Route 126). The contractor also installed aggregate subgrade and poured Stage I concrete pavement and curb and gutter on Illinois Route 126, and continued mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall panel installation with aggregate backfilling.

Next week, the contractor will continue embankment work west of the west abutment, resume structural steel installation, continue Stage I concrete pavement on Illinois Route 126, and place hot-mix asphalt pavement on the east leg of 143rd Street in preparation for the traffic switch to Stage 1B at the intersection of Illinois Route 126 and 143rd Street. They will also remove forms from the West Norman Drain north culvert, begin final grading, and continue mechanically stabilized earth wall installation and aggregate backfilling.

All work is weather dependent, with embankment progress particularly sensitive to precipitation.
