The 143rd Street & Wallin Drive at US Route 30 Intersection Improvement project involves intersection widening including additional turn lanes to increase capacity through the intersection.

This project is currently in Phase I Engineering, which focuses on evaluating current conditions, confirming design requirements, and identifying solutions to improve traffic flow, safety, and accessibility at this busy intersection.

As part of Phase I, the project team will develop a detailed Project Development Report (PDR). This report outlines the purpose of the project, examines a range of potential solutions (called alternatives), and recommends a preferred improvement to be carried forward in the next phase of project development. The report also evaluates traffic needs, safety improvements, environmental considerations, and compliance with local, state, and federal standards. The project is expected to have minimal environmental impacts.

A public meeting will be held to share the preliminary results and gather feedback on the intersection improvements being considered.

While some preliminary planning and design work was previously completed by the Village, the current Phase I Study will review, update, and confirm those plans in accordance with the latest state and federal standards. Once Phase I is approved, the Village will begin Phase II Design, which includes preparing detailed design plans and acquiring land needed to prepare the project for construction.

This project supports the Village’s Comprehensive Plan and Transportation and Mobility Plan vision of reducing congestion in the downtown area and creating opportunities for growth west of Plainfield.
